William Dalrymple et, al.: The British Aristocratic Fork-Tongue Snake and the Gaza Genocide

A man met another, who was handsome, intelligent and elegant: He asked him who he was. The other said: ‘I am the Devil.’

‘But you cannot be,’ said the first man, ‘for the devil is evil and ugly.’

‘My friend,’ said Satan, ‘you have been listening to my detractors.’ Saadi, Bustan (From Shah’s Reflections)

All nations possess the fork tongued humanoid character and not one single community is immune from this type of person regardless of religion, race and culture. So to single out one community would, in theory, be potentially unfair and indeed discriminatory. Yet one is humbly compelled to make a special case for British supposedly pro-Palestinian fork tongued characters, especially as Britain played the leading formative role in establishing the Zionist-colonial settlers in Palestine. These characters, to all appearances, seem to be genuinely horrified by the never-ending Gaza genocide yet paradoxically continue to express support and always champion the British geopolitical roots of the genocide. In this essay I identify some of the leading characters who play this rotten game as well as spelling out the central historical disconnect which characterises their forked-tongue nature.

If there was a doyen of fork tongued characters then one of the most esteemed historians in the western world, William Dalrymple is up there as the greatest contender for this accolade. When the Palestinian resistance carried out the October 7th 2023 military operation, ‘al-Aqsa Flood’, breaking the siege of Gaza and capturing Zionist colonial settlements Dalrymple was quick to condemn on what can be perceived as an act of heroic resistance against occupation, colonisation and ethnic cleansing. The Palestinian resistance in the besieged Gaza strip had broken through enemy lines, humiliated the Zionist settler-colonial enemy by occupying military bases and capturing leading settler-colonial military personnel in what in this imperialist era is referred to as “southern Israel” or the “Gaza envelope”. In a statement posted on the social media platform, X, before any of the predictable lurid stories were confirmed or corroborated (and inevitably totally debunked) Dalrymple totally accepted the Zionist tales about how the resistance, specifically HAMAS, had allegedly targeted innocents and supposedly committed heinous crimes:

“I am a life-long supporter of the Palestinian search for freedom and statehood” he hissed, Continue reading

Owen Jones Changes his Tune About “Israel’s” Creation: From Europe’s Holocaust Back to the Balfour Declaration

Owen Jones discovers the 1917 Balfour Declaration!

Britain’s most high-profile left-wing, woke British journalist and up until recently Labour Party’s leading advocate, Owen Jones has certainly surprised many with his welcome uncompromising opposition to the Zionist genocide in Gaza, Palestine. With over a million followers on X/Twitter and a YouTube channel with over seven hundred thousand subscribers he has gallantly given a much needed prominent social-media platform to anti-genocide voices. Yet before the genocide, Jones was known to defend of Zionists, Zionism and its settler-colonial project in occupied Palestine i.e “Israel”.

In defence of Zionists, Jones was a legacy media soldier and full a partner to the Zionist driven anti-semitism allegations aimed at former Labour Party politician Jermey Corbyn supporters during the latter’s leadership tenure between 2015-2020. Every time the establishment media beat the drum of an anti-semitic allegation Jones more often than not was at hand to give credibility to the false accusatory fanfare. Jones endorsed the suspension of former Labour Party Member of Parliament, Chris Williamson, as “deserved” for supposedly “repeatedly causing offense” to Zionists (or “Jewish people” as Jones launders them). Black-Jewish activists Jackie Walker was another on the receiving end of Jones’s political campaigning when she raised the taboo subject of some Jewish involvement in the trans-atlantic slave trade, a field that is beyond the pale in British learned society. In a speech at a Zionist conference, Jones had demanded her expulsion and continues to harbour disdain for her to this day.

On Zionism, Jones has endorsed one of the most enduring hegemonic Western myths about why the state of “Israel” was established. In his book, This Land: The Struggle for the Left, about the Corbyn leadership years he writes that after the Holocaust in Europe, “there appeared to be an incontestable need for a Jewish homeland…” Arrogantly, he doesn’t explain why specifically Palestine should be handed over to European Jewish refugees. He then states, “Israel” is simply a country “founded in part by Holocaust survivors”. As such it is different to other “European settler-colonialism[s]”. He elaborates the difference further, “…Israel’s founders were fleeing the flags of their old nations. Rhodesia, for example, was not founded by survivors of a genocide who had already suffered two millennia of persecution.” This is both a racist narrative and ignorant because in Jones’s rendering of the creation of the Zionist colonial entity, Palestinians do not exist.

Firstly, it’s a racist narrative because it implies it is legitimate for Europeans fleeing pogroms and persecution to lay claim to land in West Asia over the heads of the indigenous population without any consultation. In a two page discussion in his book on the creation of “Israel”, the indigenous Palestinian voice is mercilessly absent. The notion of Palestinians as the indigenous population does not even exist in Jones’s retelling of “Israel’s” creation.

Jeremy Corbyn Needs to Call for the Dismantling of Zionism in Palestine

As the Zionist colonial entity’s genocide in Gaza shows no sign of relenting, British parliamentarian Jeremy Corbyn’s inconsistencies and evasions too show no sign of diminishing. As Labour Party leader between 2015-2020, Corbyn rarely mentioned the Palestinian cause against Zionist occupation and colonisation. On one of the rare occasions, he spoke about Palestine (in November 2017) to commemorate the centenary of the British Empire issuing the Balfour Declaration, which pledged “a Jewish national home” to the European Zionist colonial movement, he bemoaned that one side of the King George V’s Declaration remains unfulfilled! In other words he didn’t condemn the colonial declaration. Instead, he de facto endorsed it and proclaimed that its shortcoming was that the indigenous Palestinians, unlike the Zionist colonial-settlers, don’t have a country as of yet. In 1917, the Jewish population of Palestine was between 60-80 thousand, as opposed to at least 700,000 Palestinians. There and then, on the hundred year anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the genteel Corbyn outrageously insulted the Palestinian anti-colonial struggle by virtue of endorsing the very imperialist death warrant which underpins the Palestinian tragedy.

During the recent commemoration of the 76th anniversary of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, the Nakba, Corbyn once again took the opportunity to showcase his inconsistency and evasion on the greatest issue of the day on three occasions. Firstly, on the 15th May he posted on the social media website, X that

Professor Neri Oxman, Bill Ackman Ain’t the New Gandhi because Gandhi wasn’t an Apologist for Genocide.

Once again Professor Neri Oxman has come to public attention during highly disturbing circumstances. The last time was because it became public knowledge that her workplace, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Media Lab was partly funded by convicted sex offender, paedophile, and alleged sexual blackmailer, multi-millionaire Jeffrey Epstein. In the course of her tenure, Oxman was to lavish her workplace’s financier with an award which after being made public she later apologise for.  This time it was after her husband, the billionaire hedge fund owner, Bill Ackman waged a sustained campaign against certain pillars of academia during the Zionist army’s genocidal onslaught against the Palestinians of Gaza.

Refuting Montefiore’s Decolonisation Diatribe: Mandate Palestine Revisited

Zionism, without a doubt, is a British fostered settler-colonialism in occupied Palestine

Western elites have been unnerved by the outpouring of grassroots support for the Palestinian people over the last seven weeks. As such, the British establishment historian and bestselling author, Simon Sebag Montefiore, was quick off the mark to denigrate these popular pro-Palestinian sentiments. Writing in the American journal “The Atlantic” he generously wrote a 4,500 word essay in an attempt to disabuse humane people of their misplaced sympathies in light of the Zionist genocidal response to the Palestinian resistance’s military advance on October 7th. The erudite diatribe, titled “The Decolonisation Narrative Is Dangerous and False” argues the reason there is so much support for the Palestinian cause among “Western academics, students, artists and activists” is because they are ‘toxically’ taught a distorted account of history by intellectuals who have embraced the ideology of “decolonisation” which he defines as “a toxic, historically nonsensical mix of Marxist theory, Soviet propaganda, and traditional anti-Semitism from the Middle Ages and the 19th century.”

Whether this hotchpotch definition of decolonisation is correct or even intelligible is beyond the scope of this essay but what I shall do is identify and unpack some of the dubious claims, sleight of hand and factual errors in Montefiore’s elegant invectiveness.
