The actress and social media influencer Jameela Jamil recently aroused the wrath of British Empire nostalgists and apologists following her appearance on an alternative media podcast. Jameela riled the apologists for two reasons. Firstly, for claiming that Brexit “paved the way” for President Donald Trump’s electoral successes and secondly for stating that “British people are truly the most evil people in history” and substantiated this latter opinion by referring to the academic findings of two scholars who concluded that India (including Pakistan and Bangladesh) is owed £43 trillion in reparations for the British imperialist plundering of the country over a period of almost 200 years. “We colonised the world!” she exclaimed. Needless to say, Jameela’s millions of social media followers strongly imply her comments have a real world impact. Britain’s leading venerable and oldest right wing rag, the Spectator Magazine, edited by neo-con former Conservative politician Michael Gove, was clearly far from impressed and predictably rose to the occasion with all guns blazing with a three pronged attack on Jameela on its website within a space of no less than twenty four hours.
